AHHH Contest Time!

In honor of the release of David Levithan’s The Lover’s Dictionary last week, we are going to have a little fun…and the prize will be your very own copy of the book.

This isn’t going to be easy. This is going to be a writing challenge.

Here are the rules:

1. You must come up with a word and a unique definition for it ala David Levithan and The Lover’s Dictionary. You can and should use The Lover’s Dictionary twitter page as inspiration.

2. You cannot have read the book AT ALL (no going to the book store and browsing through it to cheat.)

3. Leave your word and definition in the comments section.

4. The end date is January 19th.

Be creative, be ostentatious, be personal, be truthful, be gritty. Impress me.

AHHH Brilliance!

David Levithan, noun; Seriously innovative author that we all could learn a thing or two from.

So Mr. Levithan is releasing a book with Farrar, Straus and Giroux in January called The Lover’s Dictionary. This book is a love story told in the form of dictionary entries. WHAT?! I know. I can’t wait, either.

He teases it on his twitter account. You can see it here.

From Amazon:

A sweet and touching modern love story, told through dictionary entries

basis, n.

There has to be a moment at the beginning when you wonder whether you’re in love with the person or in love with the feeling of love itself.

If the moment doesn’t pass, that’s it—you’re done. And if the moment does pass, it never goes that far. It stands in the distance, ready for whenever you want it back. Sometimes it’s even there when you thought you were searching for something else, like an escape route, or your lover’s face.

How does one talk about love? Do we even have the right words to describe something that can be both utterly mundane and completely transcendent, pulling us out of our everyday lives and making us feel a part of something greater than ourselves? Taking a unique approach to this problem, the nameless narrator of David Levithan’s The Lover’s Dictionary has constructed the story of his relationship as a dictionary. Through these short entries, he provides an intimate window into the great events and quotidian trifles of being within a couple, giving us an indelible and deeply moving portrait of love in our time.
